Our second night away in our little VW campervan this year making 144 so far and didn’t pay for any of them, ‘wild’ camping rules :) We parky by the spooky ruined church at Alresford right by the graveyard and no ghosts bothered us perhaps it was too wet as it rained a lot! After yesterdays cloudy day with strong winds, today we woke to wall to wall sunshine with light winds. After a group of noisy dog walkers woke me, I got up for a sunrise pic of the church but couldn’t get a shot. We decided to back the van up and head back to Point Clear and have our breakfast on the Green arriving at 9.30 to a lovely view of sun over the sea but the wind was light. Still we were not in any hurry so while I walked on the beach taking pics Mag soon had the porridge ready. I keep an eye on my windguage which was only showing 13 mph, it might have been OK but my 8.5 although repaired is still in the sailmakers in Woodbridge! A couple of kiters arrived and rigged 12m kites so I decided to rig 7.8 for the 295 as the wind got to 15 mph:) Several kiters were here now but no sign of any windsurfers as I headed out at eleven. It was too light for the lagoon so I headed out to sea sailing parallel to the beach towards Jaywick and soon got planing, not fast but it was lovely and mild for December and I was sailing straight into the sun. The further I sailed out the lighter the wind became so I landed a couple of miles down where a small boat was being washed up the beach, yesterdays strong winds had probably washed it away! After taking a few pics I spent a good hour sailing up and down catching some nice gusts. I had one nice run to Brightlingsea, gybing in front of the beach huts before returning to the van to see Mag. Then I headed into the lagoon for some flat-water blasting/gybing which again was good fun but the wind was not quite windy enough. Then as forecast the wind was getting lighter, I decided to call it a day especially as the tide was dropping. Back at the van, diesel heater on we finished off the sausage rolls with a cuppa I derigged and we went for a walk.

Walk **** Point Clear Circuit.

So, after two good windsurfing sessions we rounded off the time away in Essex with a circuit around Point Clear. We followed the sea wall past the variety of beachside houses many with their Christmas decorations up, the only shame was all the dog crap on the path despite the many signs asking for dog owners to clear up. The other annoying thing was oafs in hatchbacks doing donuts in the carparks, they won’t be happy until the council ban parking messing it up for everyone! The path continues around the corner past Brightlingsea, through the campsite and back to the beach and back to the van. A nice 40-mile ride back to Felixstowe, filling up with diesel for our trip to Liverpool tomorrow to met up with family/friends for Christmas :)
I am now on my 82nd session for the year, 2 more than last year and who knows I might get out again after Christmas?
So here’s wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and windy New Year !!!!
